The menopause test detects high levels of FSH (Follicular Stimulating Hormone) in the urine, i.e. whether a woman may have entered the menopause.

Menopause is the time in a woman's life when menstruation stops. Normally a gradual process, the ovaries begin to produce smaller amounts of hormones. The reduced amounts of hormones cause menstrual periods to become irregular and eventually stop completely. Hormonal changes often cause other symptoms. Menopause can also occur when the ovaries are surgically removed.

Menopause usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 60. Symptoms can be physical and psychological and last for a few weeks, a few months or sometimes several years. Your symptoms may come and go, or they may occur regularly.

The use of the menopause test is quick and easy to interpret. If the test band appears and is darker than the control band, then the sample is greater than 25 mlU/ml and therefore indicates menopausal status. Conversely, if the test band does not appear or is lighter than the control band, then the FSH concentration in the sample is less than 25 mlU/ml, and therefore indicates a normal situation.
